Site FAQ

FAQ overview

I'm not a member. How can I signup?

Registration is easy!

There is a link on the homepage to join, or if you missed that, simply go to http://www.vcscollaborate.org/createMember.

Then simply enter your information, ensuring you enter a valid e-mail address and fill in the boxes that have (Required) displayed next to them.

What can I do if I have forgotten my password?

If you have lost your password, the system can e-mail it to you.  In order for this to work, you will need to know your username and will need access to the e-mail address that you entered when you initially registered.  If you cannot satisfy both of these requirements, then e-mail your details to JDudial@engage-em.org.uk.

There is a link under the initial login screen entitled 'Forgot your password?'.  If you click on this then you will be presented with a text box to insert your username.  Once you have clicked 'Send' your password will be emailled to you.

How do I change my password?

In order to change your current password, you will first need to log in.  There is then a link on the right of the initial log-in welcome screen (found here) entitled 'Change my password'.

From this page, you must re-enter your current password before entering your new password twice, to ensure you have not misspelled it.  Once submitted, the change will have an immediate effect.

I keep getting lost while using the site! How do I get to what I want?

There are two areas, or panes, on the site that are visible from every page on the site.  The top pane is the master navigation pane and by using the links that it displays, you can jump to any section of the site that you wish.

The area on the left of the site is also visible throughout the entire site, and displays links to your contacts, messages and general personal information.

What is RSS?

You may have seen the little blue or orange buttons labelled 'RSS' throughout the site and be unsure what RSS means or what these buttons do.  You might also have been intimidated by clicking on an RSS button and being presented with a page of unstyled, confusing-looking code.  Don't worry!  Nothing's broken: RSS is just a simple internet tool to keep you up-to-date with changing content without having to continually visit the site; sites with lots of updating content (like BBC News) use RSS to make it easy for people to keep up with all the latest.  There's a useful (and brief) user-friendly explanation of RSS and how to use it at http://www.whatisrss.com.
