I think it's broken!

I'm having problems adding people to My Contacts. I click the link to add them and nothing happens. I try again and then get an error. Any suggestions anyone. Rachel

If you think something's gone wrong or not working as it should, post it here: that way, everyone can see the answer should they have a similar problem.

Rachel, it may be that you've successfully requested that the person become your contact -- however, they won't appear as your contact until the other person has approved your request. This might explain the error you're getting because, as far as the system's concerned, you're trying to invite someone who you've already invited to be your contact.

If you want to check that it's working, you can try and invite me to be a contact -- I'll approve and you should see me appear in your contacts bar.

Hi Ben,

Now all is made clear. Do you think it's worth putting a message up stating what the process is for adding a contact, once someone has requested to add a contact? Although the site is generally very intuitive, it's nice to know what's happening with the request. I thought I had missed something - or just didn't have the permissions.
